Jazeera Airways, Kuwait’s first private airline, introduced its current logo in July 2017 as part of a broader brand refresh that also included a new website and mobile platforms. The identity was unveiled at a press conference marking the carrier’s 13th year of operations, with CEO Rohit Ramachandran describing the new mark as a “leap forward” that reflects the airline’s history and achievements since its founding in 2004.[1]
Design and History
The 2017 logo replaced the airline’s original mark, which had been in use since 2004. The new design presents the company name in bold lettering with an energetic color palette that the airline said demonstrates “the brand’s spirit of adventure and boldness as it forges into the future.”[2] The wordmark is accompanied by regional geometric patterns, including a diamond shape that the airline said expresses its “long standing legacy as top carrier from the Arabian peninsula.”[2]
According to the airline’s announcement, the new logo “pays homage to the original brand mark, whilst integrating a contemporary manner that now speaks volumes about how East meets West with its expanded connections into the Middle East and Eurasia.”[2] The refresh was positioned as a natural transition to rejuvenate the brand as the airline entered its 13th year of growth in Kuwait and the region.[2]
In October 2017, the airline extended the new identity to its aircraft with a fresh livery featuring tailfin designs unique to each aircraft in the fleet, “giving each aircraft its own identity while being united under the airline’s new brand.”[3] New crew uniforms and cabin interiors were introduced at the same time.[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The airline’s official description of the logo identifies several documented elements. The company name appears in bold colors representing “the blue of the sky in its different shades,” accompanied by harmonious geometric patterns and a diamond shape symbolizing the company’s heritage rooted in the Arabian Peninsula.[4]
Ramachandran explained that the six blue shapes together represent “the important milestones in the company’s history, which it aims to preserve and achieve in the future.”[4] He also noted that the distinctive “Z” in the logo “has become the company’s signature in Kuwait and the Middle East.”[4]
The new identity was introduced alongside revised brand values described as “Passionate, Connected, Insightful and Inventive,” which the airline said “embody the spirit of Jazeera.”[2]
