K2LD Architects is an international architecture and interior design practice founded in 2000, with offices in Melbourne, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur.[1] The firm’s visual identity was developed by Melbourne-based branding and communication studio Hi Ho, which also created the practice’s stationery and website.[2]

Design and History

The K2LD identity, created by Studio Hi Ho, is described as an abstract, structural and modular amalgamation of the firm’s initials.[3] The monogram was designed to evoke a “sweeping corridor and plan-like, double door aesthetic,” drawing on architectural references that align with the firm’s profession.[3]

According to Studio Hi Ho, the key to the rebrand was creating “a timeless mark that gave meaning to an existing name, while focusing on simplicity to fit within their brand of architecture.”[3] The identity was part of a broader system that included a monochromatic colour palette, uncoated materials, and a subtle pattern detail based on the standard form of the monogram used across collateral.[3]

In a later development, K2LD’s brand identity was refreshed by Your Creative, an Australian digital agency. The new identity, described as the “Nestling System,” is built on the concept of “3 complementary elements continually oscillating and adapting to context.”[4] Your Creative also developed K2LD’s website and content strategy, positioning the practice as a design-centric leader in Australia and Singapore.[4]

Meaning and Symbolism

The original monogram’s “double door” aesthetic was a deliberate visual reference to architectural forms, giving the mark meaning that connected directly to the firm’s work.[3] The identity embraced “the established and reductionist cues of the industry,” using simplicity and structural form to communicate the practice’s architectural focus.[3]

The later “Nestling System” identity concept, developed by Your Creative, draws on the idea of three complementary elements that adapt to their context, reflecting the practice’s approach to site-specific design.[4]

Typography and Design

The original identity by Studio Hi Ho paired the monogram with “the typographical utility of one style, size and format,” creating a consistent and restrained typographic system across the firm’s materials.[3] The design used a warm concrete grey and uncoated substrates, with light and shadow abstracted through a monochromatic colour palette.[3]
