Meerbuscher Künstler e.V. is an artists’ association based in Meerbusch, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The group was founded in 1978 by 25 artists, including painter and graphic designer Walter Breker, who lived in Meerbusch-Strümp and died in 1980.[1][2] The association was entered in the register of the Neuss district court on 28 April 1978.[3]

Design and History

Walter Breker was a German painter and commercial graphic artist who studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Bielefeld and later became a professor at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where he led the class for applied graphics and lettering.[4] He designed logos for companies including the Frankfurter Messe, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Erdal shoe polish.[2] Most of his archives, drawings, sketches, marks and logos are held at the Klingspor Museum in Offenbach am Main.[5]

Breker was among the founding members of the Meerbuscher Künstler association in 1978.[1] The association’s current website, launched in 2018 for its 40th anniversary, presents the group’s activities and annual exhibitions.[6]

No official documentation has been located that confirms the specific design, date or visual appearance of a logo attributed to Breker for the Meerbuscher Künstler association. While Breker’s professional career as a logo designer is well established, the claim that he created a logo for this specific association in 1979 could not be verified through available sources.

Meaning and Symbolism

Because no reliable source describing the design or symbolism of a Meerbuscher Künstler logo by Breker was found, no documented meaning or symbolic interpretation can be provided. The association’s stated goals include presenting diverse artistic styles, techniques and media side by side to create a forum for dialogue and discussion.[6]
