EvoBus GmbH was the corporate umbrella for the Mercedes-Benz and Setra bus brands from its founding in 1995 until its renaming to Daimler Buses GmbH in 2023. The company’s visual identity evolved from a standalone wordmark into a corporate logotype aligned with its parent, Daimler Truck.
Design and History
EvoBus GmbH was established on February 23, 1995, through the merger of the former Daimler-Benz AG bus division and the Karl Kässbohrer Fahrzeugwerke GmbH bus division, based in Ulm. Mercedes-Benz and Setra continued to trade as separate brands under the new umbrella company.[1][2]
On July 12, 2023, EvoBus GmbH was renamed Daimler Buses GmbH. The name change was implemented across all affiliated European national subsidiaries so the company could benefit from the Daimler brand and underscore its affiliation with the Daimler Truck Group.[3][4] The renaming was described as a new name only, with no change to the legal form or other company-relevant data.[3]
Following the renaming, the Daimler Buses visual identity was based on the Corporate Design of Daimler Truck. The segment name “Daimler Buses” is reproduced as an official addition to the Daimler Truck AG logotype. The main variant consists of the one-line corporate logotype of Daimler Truck with the subline “Daimler Buses.” The visual combination is described as an original graphic with unique proportions and characteristic spacing that must not be changed or reproduced.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2023 renaming was intended to simplify communication with stakeholders and strengthen the vehicle and service brands under a common roof. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, the new name derives from the parent group, of which the company is an integral part with the Daimler Buses business segment.[3] The Daimler Buses logotype is generally displayed only in black on a white background, with an inverted white variant approved for selected applications such as clothing and give-aways.[5]
Typography and Design
The Daimler Buses corporate design uses a color system reduced to a few colors. The primary color is white, used extensively and contrasted with the corporate logotype in black. Body text is always set in black. Light Grey serves as a surface color, with Petrol as an accent color, and Yellow defined for maximum accentuation used sparingly.[6] The corporate typeface is referenced as “Daimler CS” in event design guidelines.[7]
No official documentation was found describing the design, creator, or specific color specifications of the original EvoBus wordmark used from 1995 to 2023.
