Kompressionwerk Benneckstein is a name associated with the compressor manufacturing industry in Benneckenstein, a town in the Harz region of Germany. The company operated under the name VEB Harzer Kompressorenwerk Benneckenstein from its founding in 1958 until October 3, 1990, the date of German reunification.[1]
Design and History
The VEB Harzer Kompressorenwerk Benneckenstein was a state-owned enterprise (VEB) in the German Democratic Republic, producing compressors for a range of industrial applications. The plant was part of the VEB Kombinat Pumpen und Verdichter Halle, a major industrial combine for fluid energy machinery established in 1970.[2] The company’s products included piston compressors used in vehicle braking systems for tractors and trucks.[3]Following German reunification, the operation continued as Knorr und Bremse Harzer Kompressorenwerke GmbH, located at Zollhäuser Str. 11b in Benneckenstein.[4]
Documentation of the company’s visual identity is limited. The VEB Harzer Kompressorenwerk Benneckenstein published technical literature, including an eight-page brochure on its piston compressors HS 1-40/70 and HS 140/70-V in 1982.[5] These printed materials would have carried the company’s mark, but no authoritative description of the emblem’s design, colors, or symbolism has been located in available sources.
Claims that the logo was designed by a person named Bernhard Wille in 1965 cannot be verified through any available documentation. No records connect a designer of that name to this company or to any logo work in 1965. Similarly, no source documents the specific visual elements, colors, or typography of the mark.
