Financiera Faciema was an Argentine financial services company based in Buenos Aires, active from the mid-1970s. Its corporate mark, created in 1975, is attributed to Guillermo González Ruiz, one of Argentina’s most influential graphic designers of the twentieth century.
Design and History
The Financiera Faciema symbol was originally designed by Guillermo González Ruiz in 1975, according to the logo archive Logos & Brands, which catalogs the mark as an angular, square-based design with shadow effects.[1] The same archive lists Financiera Faciema among González Ruiz’s banking and financial brand work in Argentina.[2]
González Ruiz (born 1937 in Chascomús, Buenos Aires) trained as an architect at the University of Buenos Aires and worked as a graphic designer from the early 1960s.[3] From 1974 onward, he designed numerous identity programs for state and private companies.[4] His studio, González Ruiz y Asociados, handled visual communication for clients including the Hospital Nacional de Pediatría, the Mercado Central de Buenos Aires, Banco de Italia and Banco Galicia.[5] He is also known for the Buenos Aires Visual Plan (1971-1973), a landmark urban signage system developed with Ronald Shakespear.[5]
Company records indicate Faciema S.A. Financiera, Asesora Comercial, Inmobiliaria, Exportadora y Mandataria was founded on February 14, 1977, with offices at Avenida Paseo Colón 275 in Buenos Aires.[6] The 1975 design date attributed to the logo predates this incorporation, suggesting the mark may have been prepared during the company’s formation period.
Meaning and Symbolism
Documented interpretation of the Financiera Faciema mark is limited. [1] González Ruiz’s broader design philosophy emphasized simple, strong and timeless forms, a principle he articulated in interviews about his career.[3]
