Filmographie Inc is a Canadian printing company whose 1979 logo was designed by Raymond Bellemare, a Quebec graphic designer who founded his own studio, Raymond Bellemare Designers inc., in 1971.[1] The mark is documented in the Canada Modern archive, which covers Canadian modernist graphic design from 1960 to 1985.[2]
Design and History
Bellemare studied graphic design at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal, graduating in 1962, and went on to create numerous logos and brand images from the 1960s onward.[1] The Filmographie Inc logo, designed in 1979, is classified as a grid-based, square-shaped mark.[3]
Bellemare’s work from this period includes other notable Canadian identities, such as the 1977 logo for Éole inc., a kite manufacturer, which featured a stylized bird with wings conveying swirling winds and clouds.[4] His broader portfolio also includes marks for the Ordre des pharmaciens du Québec (1965), the National Arts Centre (1969), and the Comédiens associés du Québec (1971).[1]
Meaning and Symbolism
Documented interpretation of the Filmographie Inc logo is limited. The mark’s grid-based, square construction is noted in available sources, but no official account of its intended symbolism has been published.[3] The company’s name suggests a connection to film and documentation, though this connection is not explicitly confirmed by the designer or the archive.
Logo Index is an independent educational archive covering logos, visual identities and graphic design history. All trademarks and brand assets remain the property of their respective owners.
