Riva & Mariani (also styled Riva e Mariani) is an Italian industrial plant engineering company founded in 1937, specializing in thermo-acoustic insulation, scaffolding, environmental remediation, industrial coatings and fireproofing.[1] The company is headquartered in Milan and operates as a multi-service firm in the design, construction, maintenance and decommissioning of industrial plants.[2]

Design and History

Riva & Mariani was founded in 1937, with its core business always centered on insulation and the installation of insulation and scaffoldings.[1] The company’s visual identity has evolved alongside its growth, which included a series of mergers in the late 1990s with companies such as PACI Impianti, SAR.MI.R. s.r.l., Rossetti Insud s.r.l., Soave Coibentazioni and CO.TERM.A. s.r.l.[1]

In 2021, Riva & Mariani became a Benefit Company, formally committing to pursue purposes of common benefit alongside producing value for shareholders.[1] The company was acquired by the Italian fund Armònia Sgr, which took control of 85% of Riva e Mariani Group S.p.A. in 2022.[3]

Documentation of a specific 1969 logo design attributed to Alfredo Troisi could not be verified through available sources. Alfredo Troisi is documented as an art director at the Mondadori Advertising Department in the 1960s, where graphic designer Cesare Priori worked under his direction.[4] However, no verifiable connection between Troisi and a Riva & Mariani logo has been found in the research materials reviewed.

Meaning and Symbolism

The company’s official communications describe its contribution to environmental sustainability through thermal insulation activities, which help companies improve energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions, as well as through environmental remediation activities that decontaminate materials and soils containing dangerous substances such as asbestos.[1] These documented values reflect the company’s operational focus, though no official source describing specific symbolic meaning in the logo itself was located.
