Peter Doehler was a Munich-based market consulting firm active in the late 1960s. Its logo, created in 1968, is documented in the design reference book Signs + Emblems: A Collection of International Examples, which credits the mark to designer Pham Phu Oanh and identifies the client as “Peter Doehler/Munich/Marketing Consultants.”[1]

Design and History

The Peter Doehler logo is classified as a logotype with initials, incorporating the letters “P” and “D” in its construction. The mark is described as featuring holding shapes, lines, and squares, suggesting a geometric, abstract treatment of the two-letter monogram.[2]

Pham Phu Oanh, the designer credited for the mark, was a Vietnamese-born graphic designer working in Germany. He studied visual communication with a focus on typography at the HfG Ulm (Ulm School of Design) from 1965 to 1967, though he did not complete a diploma there.[3] A 1968 issue of the German design magazine Gebrauchsgraphik profiled him under the title “pham phu oanh, Saigon/Munich: A Graphic Designer from Vietnam,” confirming his active practice in Munich during the same year the Peter Doehler logo was produced.[4]

The logo was included in Signs + Emblems, a compendium of international logo and signet examples edited by Erhardt D. Stiebner and Dieter Urban, first published in German as Zeichen + Signets and later translated into English.[1] Its inclusion in this reference work indicates the mark was regarded as a notable example of late-1960s German logo design.

Meaning and Symbolism

Documented sources describe the logo’s formal elements, including the use of the initials “P” and “D” combined with geometric shapes such as lines and squares.[2] No primary source provides an explicit interpretation of the mark’s intended symbolism or meaning beyond these visual characteristics.
