Toby E. Rodes Consultants was a public relations and consulting agency founded in 1966 in Basel, Switzerland, by German-American business consultant and design critic Toby E. Rodes (1919–2013).[1] The agency operated as a full-service consultancy, acting as counselors and executing public relations programs.[2]

Design and History

The Toby E. Rodes Consultants logo was designed by the Swiss graphic design studio Humbert + Vogt, based in Riehen near Basel. The studio was founded in 1966 by photographer Roger Humbert and graphic designer Rolf M. Vogt, who had previously worked as Publicity Coordinator for Europe and South America at Knoll International.[3] The logo appears in the 1971 design reference book Signs + Emblems: A Collection of International Examples, where it is credited to Humbert + Vogt and identified as a mark for “Toby Rodes/Consultant.”[4]

Rodes had a long association with Knoll International, serving as a manager there from 1955 until 1966, the same year he founded his own consulting agency in Basel.[1] Vogt’s own tenure at Knoll International from 1962 onward likely provided a professional connection between the two parties.[3]

The agency remained active for decades. Swiss address records indicate that Toby E. Rodes Consultants was registered at St. Alban-Anlage 25 in Basel and was closed in 2022.[5]
