The International University Exchange is a mark attributed to Dutch visual artist and designer Ralph Prins (1926-2015), who worked as a designer of logos, posters and book jackets, and also as a photographer, painter and draughtsman.[1] Prins established himself as an independent visual artist in The Hague in 1953, after earlier work as a coordinating designer for the Vroom & Dreesmann concern.[2]
Design and History
Prins’s archive, held at the Allard Pierson at the University of Amsterdam, contains 585 items of graphic material he designed, including letter paper, magazines, brochures, posters and other printed matter, alongside work for commercial clients and organizations such as Amnesty International and the Holland Festival.[2] A broad selection of his logos was included in the multi-volume reference work Top Symbols & Trademarks of the World.[3]
Specific documentation of the International University Exchange mark, including its exact design, original commission or the date of 1955, could not be verified in the available sources. The attribution to Prins and the year 1955 should therefore be treated with caution.
Meaning and Symbolism
No documented description of the mark’s intended symbolism or meaning was found in the research sources. Any interpretation of the design’s significance would be speculative.
Logo Index is an independent educational archive covering logos, visual identities and graphic design history. All trademarks and brand assets remain the property of their respective owners.
