Bajaj Electricals Limited, the Mumbai-based consumer appliances and lighting company within the Bajaj Group, has used a distinctive eye-and-arrow device mark since January 2004. The logo was designed by Heros’ Publicity Service, a Mumbai agency that specialises in corporate logos, and was described at the time as the company’s “latest logo.”[1]
Design and History
The 2004 mark replaced an earlier Bajaj Electricals logo with an open eye, described in the design brief as signifying “the attitude to pursue new opportunities.” A forward-facing arrow element represents progress, and the mark includes a vermilion dot. The vermilion colour was chosen as “a reminder of India’s glorious culture” and “carries the vigor of sun,” reflecting the company’s stated ideal of “dynamic progress into the future while conserving indigenous culture.”[2]
In 2008, The Economic Times reported that Bajaj Electricals had registered as a trademark its new brand name “BAJAJ” written in vermilion orange, paired with the forward-looking eye logo. The vermilion orange was described as a combination of red and brown, with “a little use of blue in the triangle of the eye.”[3] The same report noted that the company adopted the new logo to create an identity distinct from its parent company.[4]
In October 2022, Bajaj Electricals unveiled a revamped brand positioning, “Bajaj: Built For Life,” described as a large-scale transformation campaign. Managing Director and CEO Anuj Poddar said the company’s “visual identity will be smarter, and more contemporary across all touch points.”[5] The company’s annual report for fiscal 2022-23 confirmed that the flagship “BAJAJ” brand was relaunched with the “BUILT FOR LIFE” positioning during that year.[6] The creative agency McCann Worldgroup India worked on the campaign film.[5]
Bajaj Electricals filed trademark applications in June and July 2022 for device marks including “BAJAJ ELECTRICALS LOGO” and “BAJAJ BUILT FOR LIFE LOGO,” both registered in 2023.[7][8]
Meaning and Symbolism
According to the design brief, the open eye signifies the company’s attitude to pursue new opportunities, while the forward-facing arrow represents progress. The vermilion dot carries cultural significance as a reminder of India’s heritage and the vigour of the sun.[2] The Economic Times described the mark as a “forward looking eye,” reinforcing the future-oriented reading of the symbol.[3]
Typography and Design
Brand asset data for Bajaj Electricals lists a primary brand colour of Tory Blue (hex #155CAC) alongside white.[9] The 2008 trademark registration described the wordmark as “BAJAJ” written in vermilion orange, with blue used in the triangle of the eye device.[3]
