The Ligue électrique du Québec (Quebec Electrical League) was an industry organization active in Quebec’s electrical sector during the mid-20th century. It published technical standards, including a 1966 residential electric heating standards document, and administered the Novelec quality label for all-electric buildings, a trademark it owned.[1][2] The organization’s name is sometimes confused with the Corporation des maîtres électriciens du Québec (CMEQ), the regulatory body for master electricians founded in 1950, which launched its own logo in 1966.[3]

Design and History

The CMEQ’s symbol, created in 1966, has remained in continuous use by the Corporation. According to the CMEQ’s official brand guidelines, the mark was designed with a “harmonious and refined” line that suggested competence, precision and professional integrity.[4] The Corporation’s own history page confirms the 1966 launch of the logo, noting it remains current.[3]

In 2025, as the CMEQ celebrated its 75th anniversary, the organization unveiled a modernized version of its logo at the MCEE trade show in Montreal. The update was described as an adaptation that would not require members to re-letter their work vehicles, and the existing logo remained compliant.[5] The organization stated it was taking a strategic turn toward greater use of the “CMEQ” acronym to reinforce recognition and notoriety.[5]

Meaning and Symbolism

The CMEQ’s official brand guidelines describe the symbol’s meaning in detail. The mark represents the Corporation as the “centre of activity” of a professional group through an imposing and solid “e” for electrical. A circle within the design evokes the grouping and union of members. The guidelines also note that the symbol’s graphic purity makes it easy to reproduce, simplifying its distribution and use by members.[4]

Typography and Design

The CMEQ publishes official color specifications for its logo. The primary “electric blue” is defined as PMS 3005c, with CMYK values C100 M35 Y0 K0, RGB values R0 G119 B200, and hex code #0077c8. A secondary “royal blue” is specified as PMS 2995c, CMYK C100 M55 Y0 K50, RGB R0 G56 B101, and hex code #003865.[4] The logo is available in several official versions, including full color, monochrome, symbol-only and signature formats, with the color version preferred on white or light backgrounds.[4]
