Siltronic AG is a German manufacturer of hyperpure silicon wafers for the semiconductor industry, headquartered in Munich.[1] The company traces its origins to 1953, when research and development in high-purity silicon began, and it has existed under the Siltronic AG name since 2004.[2]
Design and History
The current Siltronic logo pairs the wordmark “Siltronic” with a tagline reading “Perfect Silicon Solutions,” as documented in a January 2025 photograph of the company’s Munich headquarters signage.[3] The company’s visual identity has been modernized in recent years: the agency 599media was engaged to reinterpret Siltronic’s corporate design, relaunch its website, and update print materials to reflect the company’s position as a global market leader in the semiconductor industry.[4]
Earlier in the company’s history, a distinct logo was introduced in December 2005 by Siltron, the Korean subsidiary that later became SK siltron. That mark, based on the English word “SILTRON,” was designed around the concept of a “supernova,” symbolizing exploding energy and rebirth, according to the company at the time.[5] This Korean subsidiary’s identity is separate from the German Siltronic AG brand.
Trademark records show that Siltronic AG registered the wordmark “SILTRONIC” in Taiwan in 1997,[6] and a combined word-and-device mark “siltronic 及圖” (siltronic and design) was filed in 2004 and registered in 2006.[7]
Meaning and Symbolism
Documented symbolism for the current Siltronic AG logo is limited. The 2005 Siltron logo in Korea was explicitly described by the company as based on the concept of a “supernova,” representing exploding energy and rebirth.[5] No comparable official explanation of the current German company’s mark has been published in the available sources.
