Apache Corporation is an oil and gas exploration and production company headquartered in Houston, Texas, with operations in the United States, Canada, Egypt and the United Kingdom.[1] Following a March 2021 reorganization, Apache Corporation became a subsidiary of APA Corporation, a holding company.[2]
Design and History
Apache Corporation introduced a new logo in January 2014, with the mark distributed through PR Newswire under the identifier DA47435LOGO.[1] The company’s brand standards document describes the identity as built around a color called “Apache Gold,” which the company says “represents the new light on the horizon, a symbol of the new horizons we seek in exploring what’s possible” and “the gold standard to which we hold ourselves in all our endeavors.”[3]
When APA Corporation was formed in 2021 following the corporate reorganization, the company undertook a rebranding effort. The APA Corporation logo and refreshed brand identity were designed by the company’s in-house Digital and Creative Services Team, led by Brandie Gilliam, Alexandra Dougharty and Diego Avila.[4] The team created a rebrand that “still felt familiar to the legacy of its subsidiary, Apache Corporation,” featuring “a vibrant and diverse color palette, angular graphic devices and contemporary typefaces.”[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The APA Corporation trademark, registered internationally in March 2021, consists of the letters “APA” in gold and “Corporation” in black, with the mark containing the colors gold and black.[5] The gold color carries forward the “Apache Gold” identity established in the earlier Apache Corporation brand standards.[3]
Typography and Design
The APA Corporation rebrand was designed to “push the boundaries of what is typically expected from the oil and gas identities,” according to the design team’s project description.[4] The identity incorporates contemporary typefaces and angular graphic devices as part of its refreshed visual system.[4]
