Bombones Keops-Blanxart

Bombones Keops-Blanxart is a chocolate product line from Blanxart, a chocolatier founded in Barcelona in 1954 by Francesc Agrás. Its visual identity has been attributed to the Barcelona graphic design studio Ribas i Creus.

Bombones Keops-Blanxart is a chocolate product line associated with the Barcelona-based chocolatier Blanxart. The Keops name, referencing the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu (Cheops), was registered as a trademark by Blanxart SA with the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office under file number M-0427478.[1] The product range also includes related names such as Kefren and Mikerinos, both references to Egyptian pyramids.[2]

Design and History

Blanxart was founded in 1954 by Francesc Agrás, a master chocolatier from Barcelona who established the company in the Les Corts neighborhood of the city.[3] The Keops line consists of pyramid-shaped chocolates, a form that directly references the Great Pyramid of Giza.[4]

The visual identity for Bombones Keops has been attributed to the Barcelona graphic design studio Ribas i Creus, founded in 1961 by Ramon Ribas and Pere Creus.[5] The studio’s archive, which includes original and printed graphic work produced or compiled by the studio, was donated to the Biblioteca de Catalunya and the Museu del Disseny de Barcelona between 2013 and 2014.[6] Ribas i Creus developed a distinctive graphic style characterized by synthesis and economy of expressive resources.[7]

Meaning and Symbolism

The Keops branding draws its meaning from the pyramid form of the chocolates themselves. The name Keops is the Spanish and Catalan rendering of Cheops, the Greek name for the pharaoh Khufu, builder of the Great Pyramid of Giza. The product’s pyramid shape and Egyptian-themed naming create a direct visual and verbal association with ancient Egyptian monumental architecture.[4] The companion product names Kefren (Khafre) and Mikerinos (Menkaure) extend this theme, referencing the other two pyramids of the Giza complex.[2]
