Born in the kitchen

The REKKI logo represents a UK-based mobile app founded in 2016 by restaurant operators to connect chefs with local suppliers globally.

REKKI is a London-based company founded in 2016 by people who had lived the life of independent restaurant operators for more than a decade, including ex-chefs and ex-suppliers. The company originally built a mobile app to connect chefs with suppliers, and its brand identity was developed under the direction of David Anastácio, who served as the brand’s VP of Design and later Creative Director.[1][2][3]

Design and History

REKKI was founded in 2016 in London by Ronen Givon, Noam Givon and Orat Benyamini, a group whose founders had run restaurants for over 10 years before starting the company.[1][4] The company’s own materials describe the concept as having been “born in the kitchen,” referencing the founders’ direct restaurant experience.[5]

The brand identity was designed by David Anastácio, who lists “design of REKKI brand and website” among his recent work.[6] The current logo consists of a custom REKKI wordmark preceded by a distinctive geometric mark described as resembling the Greek letter pi (π).[7]

In 2017, the Swiss type foundry Dinamo was commissioned to create a custom version of its ABC Diatype typeface for REKKI. Design director David Anastácio asked Dinamo to apply “the essence of REKKI’s brand” to ABC Diatype, and the foundry reflected on the letter shapes of the brand logo’s letters to create Diatype REKKI in Regular and Medium weights.[2] The type design team included Johannes Breyer, Elias Hanzer and Fabian Harb.[2]

Meaning and Symbolism

The logo system includes a geometric mark preceding the wordmark that is described in brand style documentation as resembling a “π-like” shape.[7] No official source provides a documented explanation of the mark’s intended meaning beyond its visual form.

Typography and Design

The REKKI brand uses Diatype REKKI as its primary typeface, a custom adaptation of Dinamo’s ABC Diatype created specifically for the company. The typeface was developed by reflecting on the letter shapes found in the brand logo, and it exists in Regular and Medium weights.[2]

Brand style documentation describes a predominantly monochromatic visual system built on a black canvas, with a single electric blue accent color (#0063e1) reserved for primary calls to action and active states. The logo wordmark and π-like mark appear in white on dark backgrounds.[7] Display headlines use Diatype REKKI at weight 400 with tight negative letter spacing, which the style guide describes as making the type feel “architectural.”[7]
