Decoradora Marina Blanco is an interior design and home decor brand from Spain. Its logo was designed in 1969 by José Santamarina, working at the studio Elías+Santamarina, which he had co-founded that same year with Elías García Benavides.[1][2]

Design and History

José Santamarina Laviada (born in Oviedo, 1941) began his career as a graphic designer and illustrator in 1962. In 1969, he founded the studio Elías+Santamarina with Elías García Benavides, and in 1997 he opened his current studio, Santamarina Diseñadores, with his son Miguel and daughter Carmen.[2] The Decoradora Marina Blanco mark dates from the founding year of the Elías+Santamarina studio, 1969.[1]

Santamarina’s work is characterized by geometric precision, with references to geometric abstraction, constructivism, kinetic art, and op-art.[2] His designs have been exhibited at the Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias, which in 2025 dedicated the exhibition “Gráfica pura” to his career, showcasing his logos, posters, and graphic identity manuals.[3]

Meaning and Symbolism

The Decoradora Marina Blanco logo is described as a circle-shaped mark with a reflection motif.[1] No official documentation of specific symbolic meaning for this particular mark has been located. However, Santamarina has stated that his creations are characterized by the accuracy of geometry and that spectator participation is an important aspect of his work, with pieces appearing differently depending on lighting and viewing angle.[2]
