Lukas Beddy was an Italian furniture brand active in the early 1970s, based in Barba, in the province of Pistoia, and specialized in sofas and armchairs that converted into beds [1]. The brand appeared in advertising as early as September 1969, when a color advertisement for “KASBED Lukas Beddy” sofas and sofa beds ran on page 534 of the official catalog for the 2nd Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan [2].

Design and History

The Lukas Beddy symbol was designed by Emanuele Centazzo at Sitcap in 1970 [3]. Centazzo, born in Venice in 1936, was an artist whose work spanned film, photography and painting [4]. He was also a contributor to “Ombre Elettriche,” an underground cinema fanzine published in Turin in the late 1960s [5]. Sitcap, the studio where the mark was created, is credited with several other Italian brand symbols designed by Centazzo in the early 1970s, including marks for Alberto Ferrari (1971), Ferrafalti (1973) and Deltec Electronics (1973) [6] [7] [8].

The Lukas Beddy mark is described as a 3D design featuring stripes, with a band and ribbon motif [3]. The brand’s documented activity places it in the early 1970s, with surviving vintage pieces from that period attributed to the company [1].
