Carcaba Grupo, a Spanish logistics operator founded in Asturias in 1962 by Joaquín Cárcaba Valdés, has registered several distinctive marks with the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) that document the evolution of its visual identity.[1][2]

Design and History

Two trademark registrations filed by Carcaba, S.L. in 1988 provide the clearest documented record of the company’s logo history. Both marks were originally filed in the late 1980s and remain active, with renewals recorded through 2018.[3][4]

The first, filed on 7 March 1988 as a purely graphic mark (expediente M-1238682), covers road freight transport services in Nice class 39. According to the Vienna classification codes recorded by the OEPM, the mark contains arrows combined with other figurative elements, and circles or ellipses containing one or more quadrilaterals.[4]

The second, filed on 22 August 1988 as a mixed word-and-figure mark (expediente M-1270456) for the name “CARCABA EMPRESAS DE TRANSPORTES,” also covers road freight transport services. Its Vienna classification codes describe a single arrow, arrows combined with other figurative elements, and sectors of circles or ellipses.[3]

Both registrations were transferred to Carcaba, S.L. in 1997, and each has been renewed multiple times, most recently in 2017 and 2018 respectively, indicating continued use of these marks.[4][3]

Meaning and Symbolism

The OEPM records do not provide an official interpretation of the marks’ symbolism. However, the Vienna classification codes themselves document that both marks incorporate arrow motifs, a common graphic device in transport branding that visually suggests direction and movement. The 1988 graphic mark also includes circular or elliptical forms containing quadrilaterals, while the mixed mark features sectors of circles or ellipses alongside its arrows.[4][3]

No designer attribution for either mark appears in the available OEPM documentation or in the company’s own published materials. Claims linking the logo to a specific designer in 1982 cannot be verified against these primary records, which date the earliest documented registrations to 1988.
