Interexport is a Mexican import-export brand whose symbol was originally designed by Cuban-Mexican graphic designer Félix Beltrán in 1983.[1] Beltrán, a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale since 1974, is recognized for his extensive work in corporate identity design across Latin America and beyond.[2]

Design and History

Beltrán’s career in logo design spans from the Hotel La Habana mark in Cuba (1956) through corporate identities for clients in New York, Madrid, Geneva and Mexico.[3] The Interexport mark, created in 1983, belongs to this body of work produced during his years in Mexico.[1]

Beltrán’s approach to logo design emphasized synthesis and order, principles showcased in the 2016 exhibition “Supersignos” at Casa de América in Madrid, which featured 150 of his and Cruz Novillo’s logos in black and white.[4] The exhibition highlighted how Beltrán’s marks achieve a difficult balance between visual quality and conceptual clarity, maintaining their communicative effectiveness across time and distance.[3]

Meaning and Symbolism

Beltrán’s corporate marks are characterized by their abstract, synthetic visual language.[3] His design philosophy, as described in the monograph “Félix Beltrán: Visual Intelligence,” reflects a deep conceptual approach to graphic design in a social sense.[2] The Interexport symbol follows this tradition of geometric abstraction, though specific documented symbolism for this particular mark has not been published in accessible sources.
