Edil Glass is an Italian glass workshop based in Bibbiena, in the province of Arezzo, Tuscany. The company, formally registered as Edil Glass di Ferroni Franco, operates from Via Libertà 22 and specializes in the processing and transformation of flat glass, including tempered, laminated, and artistic glasswork.[1] The business opened in the early 1970s as a small family-run operation.[2]
Design and History
Edil Glass’s original symbol was designed by Walter Hergenröther in 1978.[3] The mark is described as a square, rounded logo that makes use of negative space.[3] No further documentation of Hergenröther’s design process or the original mark’s intended meaning has been located.
In 2022, the company undertook a rebranding effort with the Italian design studio Irene Iunco, which developed a new logo and website. The studio’s case study notes that the company, facing an increasingly competitive market, used the new identity as a springboard for relaunching itself.[2] A key design objective was the development of a monogram that could be applied directly onto glass sheets and window frames as a physical mark.[2]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2022 identity places emphasis on the choice of an identifying color for the company, selected to help the brand stand out from common conventions in its sector while remaining recognizable within its local context.[2] The monogram format was chosen specifically for its practical application as a stamp on glass products and fixtures.[2]
