Fluidra, a Spanish multinational pool and wellness equipment company headquartered in Sabadell (Barcelona), uses a wordmark-based logo whose core design dates to a 2007 corporate rebranding. The company was founded in 1969 as Astral Construcciones Metálicas and adopted the Fluidra name in 2007 ahead of its stock exchange listing. [1]
Design and History
In April 2007, the company, then operating under the name Aquaria, unveiled a new graphic identity. The new logotype was described as a tricolor liquid symbol inspired by water, reflecting the company’s commitment to technology, growth, service and sustainability. The blue color suggested water and technology, green represented nature and sustainability, and yellow evoked life, the sun and innovation. [2]
Later that year, in September 2007, the company announced it would change its name from Aquaria to Fluidra. The name was created by the branding consultancy SUMMA, combining the Spanish word “fluir” (to flow) with “hidra” (water in Greek). According to the company, the three-color logo remained the same as before, inspired by water, with the logotype alluding to a liquid that expands and expressing Fluidra’s commitment to technology (blue), sustainability (green) and growth (yellow). [3]
In 2018, Fluidra merged with Zodiac Pool Systems, creating a global leader in the pool sector. [1] Zodiac subsequently completed its branding transition to Fluidra in January 2020, adopting the Fluidra corporate name while retaining its product brands such as Jandy, Polaris and Zodiac. [4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The Fluidra logotype is designed to evoke a liquid that expands, drawing directly on water as its visual inspiration. The three colors carry documented meanings: blue represents water and technology, green stands for nature and sustainability, and yellow symbolizes life, the sun and innovation. [2] The name itself reinforces this water-centric identity, alluding to the flow of water and the company’s focus on sustainable water usage. [3]
Typography and Design
A Spanish trademark registration for the Fluidra mark, filed in January 2008, claimed colors including navy blue, light blue (process cyan), green and yellow, and described the mark’s figurative elements as letters combined with a figurative element. [5] The registration has since lapsed, but it documents the official color palette associated with the Fluidra identity in the period following the 2007 rebranding.
