Hans Schaub was a Swiss printing company based in Sissach, in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. The firm traces its roots to 1885, when Jakob Schaub took over a print shop in Sissach to produce the regional newspaper Volksstimme.[1] The company later operated under the name J. Schaub-Buser AG before being renamed Schaub Medien AG in 2001.[1]

Design and History

The Hans Schaub logo was designed in 1962 by Swiss designer Hans Knöpfli.[2] The mark is classified as a logotype built from the initials H and S, and it incorporates square-based geometric elements.[2] The design belongs to the Swiss modernist tradition of the period, which favored functional, unadorned forms.

Knöpfli also designed a 1966 logo for the Swiss art gallery Haudenschild & Laubscher, which likewise used square shapes, suggesting a consistent geometric approach in his identity work during this period.[3]

Meaning and Symbolism

The logo combines the letters H and S, the initials of the company name, within a square-based construction.[2] The square framework gives the mark a stable, structured appearance consistent with the printing trade’s emphasis on precision and alignment. No official documentation of additional symbolic meaning has been located.
