Industrial Bolsera is a Spanish manufacturer of paper bags and flexible packaging, founded in Barcelona around 1919. The company’s logo was designed in 1974 by Tomàs Vellvé, a Barcelona-born graphic designer and member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) since 1967.[1][2][3]

Design and History

Vellvé created the Industrial Bolsera symbol in 1974, during a period when he was active as a graphic designer specializing in posters, calendars, illustrations and trademarks.[4] The mark is described as a three-dimensional cube or box-like form, a fitting visual reference for a company whose core business is the production of paper bags and flexible packaging.[5]

The company itself was founded in Barcelona around 1919 by three families from the industrial sector, specializing in paper bags. In 1977, the business was divided into two channels: the factory retained the name “Industrial Bolsera,” while the retail stores became “Comercial Bolsera.”[6] The logo created by Vellvé in 1974 therefore predates this organizational split by three years.

Meaning and Symbolism

The logo’s cube-like geometry directly echoes the company’s product line: boxes, bags and packaging. The three-dimensional form suggests a container or box, visually communicating the company’s industrial purpose without relying on literal depictions of bags or paper.[5] The geometric construction aligns with Vellvé’s broader design approach, which included a typeface described as standing between the geometry-based Futura and industrial sans serifs like Helvetica.[2]

Typography and Design

Vellvé was also a type designer. In 1971, three years before creating the Industrial Bolsera logo, he designed his first commercial typeface, Vellvé, for Barcelona’s Neufville Type Foundry.[4] His typographic sensibility is evident in the clean, geometric forms of the Industrial Bolsera mark, which prioritizes function and reproducibility over decorative detail.[5]
