Design and History

The Kleiber wordmark is the central element of the brand’s visual identity, appearing on the company’s website and product packaging. The company’s own history page does not document a specific logo redesign or the introduction of a new mark, and no official source confirms a designer or creation date for the current logo.

An unverified claim attributes the Kleiber logo to Austrian typeface designer Othmar Motter in 1981. Motter, who died in 2010, designed more than 700 logos and signets for companies, associations and organizations across Austria, including well-known marks for Pfanner fruit juices and Lotto/Toto.[3] However, no reliable source in the available research connects Motter specifically to Kleiber + Co. GmbH or its logo. The company is based in Germany, while Motter’s documented logo work was primarily for Vorarlberg-based firms in Austria.[4]

Kleiber + Co. GmbH introduced its KLEIBER brand-name products in 1989, according to the company’s own history timeline.[1] The company celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2018.[1]

Meaning and Symbolism

The German word “Kleiber” refers to the nuthatch, a small songbird. The company’s own materials describe Kleiber simply as a “quality brand” for haberdashery and creative handicrafts.[5]
