La Corporation de Promotion Industrielle de Sept-Îles is the original name of the economic development organization now known as Développement Économique Sept-Îles (DÉSI), a municipal non-profit founded in 1974 to promote industrial and commercial growth in Sept-Îles, Quebec. The organization was born under the name Corporation de promotion industrielle et commerciale de Sept-Îles, later shortened to the acronym COPIC before adopting its current identity.[1][2]
Design and History
The organization’s 1979 logo was designed by Alain Grenier.[3] The mark uses clean, geometric forms intended to reflect the precision and strength of the manufacturing industry, with a straightforward style fitting for a corporate identity of that era. The design likely incorporates local or industrial motifs to reinforce the organization’s role in promoting economic development in the Sept-Îles region.
In August 2025, DÉSI unveiled a new visual identity with a modernized logo. The new design is presented in uppercase letters with a modern, structured typography that evokes rigor, stability and dynamism. The “D,” the central element of the logo, is stylized in a unique way to make it a strong and recognizable symbol. Seven squares integrated into the “D” represent the seven islands that gave the city its name, anchoring the logo visually in the territory it serves.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The seven squares integrated into the “D” of the 2025 logo directly reference the seven islands that gave Sept-Îles its name. This geographic reference anchors the logo in the territory it serves, illustrating the organization’s commitment to supporting economic development and serving the community.[4]
