Ramon Reig Cabanas was a textile machinery manufacturer based in Terrassa, Spain, founded in 1913 by industrialist Ramon Reig Cabanas. The company built and repaired textile machinery, later specializing in combing machines, intersecting gills and thread winders, and eventually became a limited company under the name Ramon Reig Cabanas, SL in 1963, converting to a public limited company in 1966.[1]

Design and History

The company’s logo was designed in 1966 by the Barcelona graphic design studio Ribas i Creus, according to a logo archive record.[2] The studio was founded in 1961 by Ramon Ribas and Pere Creus, who had met while working at the advertising agency Publi-test.[3][4] The studio’s work was characterized by synthesis and economy of expressive resources, a style that earned them recognition as founding members of Grafistes Agrupació FAD, for which they received a Laus d’Honor in 2000.[3]

The logo archive record describes the mark as a semi-circle design with a reflection shape, created in 1966.[2] A local Terrassa collectors’ publication from 2024 also references the company logo from the 1960s, confirming the mark existed during that period.[5]

The company’s history ended during the textile crisis of the 1970s. After presenting a suspension of payments in June 1978, the company auctioned its assets in 1980.[1] The former factory buildings were later expropriated by the City Council of Terrassa and, in 2023, ceded to the casteller group Minyons de Terrassa for use as their headquarters.[1]

Meaning and Symbolism

Documented interpretation of the logo’s symbolism is limited. The mark’s semi-circle and reflection composition, as catalogued, suggests a geometric, abstract approach consistent with the mid-century industrial design context in which it was created.[2] The studio’s broader design philosophy of synthesis and economy of expressive resources, as noted in their professional obituaries, aligns with the minimal geometric character of the mark.[3]
