Standard International Corporation was an American diversified manufacturer based in Andover, Massachusetts, incorporated in 1955. The company went public in 1964 and officially adopted the name Standex International in 1973.[1]
Design and History
The earliest documented logo for Standard International Corporation is a stylized letter “S” mark, registered as a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The mark was first used in commerce on October 7, 1965, and the trademark application was filed on May 18, 1966. Registration was granted on July 4, 1967, under registration number 0831470. The official trademark record describes the mark simply as consisting of “the letter ‘S’ and design.”[2]
The trademark registration was originally filed under Standard International Corporation of Andover, Massachusetts. The registration record shows the mark was later associated with Standex International Corporation, reflecting the company’s 1973 name change.[3][1]
The “S” trademark has been renewed multiple times, including a third renewal in 2017, indicating the mark remained in active use for decades after its initial registration.[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The official trademark record provides no documented symbolism or meaning for the “S” mark beyond its description as “the letter ‘S’ and design.”[2] The mark functions as a monogram-style identifier for the company name, but no official source elaborates on additional symbolic intent.
Standex International Corporation’s later corporate logo, documented in a separate trademark filing, consists of “two interlocking ovals” with colors claimed as Aqua and Navy Blue.[4] This later mark represents the visual identity adopted after the company’s transition from Standard International to Standex.
