Vereinigte Offsetdruckereien (VOD) was a German printing company based in Mannheim, active from the late 1950s until its closure in the 1980s. The firm operated as VOD-Vereinigte Offsetdruckereien GmbH and was registered under Amtsgericht Mannheim HRB 430.[1]
Design and History
The company was founded in 1958 in Mannheim-Neckarau, with support from the SPD-affiliated publishing organization Konzentration GmbH. It belonged to the Mediengruppe Dr. Haas, a Mannheim-based media group. In 1986, VOD was merged into the Mediengruppe and subsequently shut down.[2]
During its operating years, VOD produced commercial printing work, including advertising posters and books. A 1965 poster for Reval cigarettes was printed by Vereinigte Offsetdruckereien Mannheim,[3] and the company printed a 1966 local history book on the Czech town of Kratzau.[4] In 1970, the firm published a commemorative volume titled “100 Jahre Druck” (100 Years of Printing).[5]
No reliable documentation has been found confirming the existence of a 1966 logo designed by Werner Keidel for this company. While a German designer named Werner Keidel is credited with a 1964 logo for Peter Kwasny GmbH & Co, a spray production firm,[6] no source connects Keidel to Vereinigte Offsetdruckereien or to any 1966 mark. Any description of such a logo, including its geometric forms or symbolism, cannot be verified from available evidence.
