Robert Campiche (1901-1998) was a Swiss commercial professional whose career spanned international trade promotion, family business management, and commercial consulting. He is documented in the archives of the Canton of Vaud as a deputy director of the Office suisse d’expansion commerciale (Swiss Office for Commercial Expansion), where he worked until his retirement in 1966.[1]
Design and History
Campiche was born on 20 April 1901 in Sainte-Croix and grew up in Lausanne. After studying at the École des Hautes Études Commerciales, he worked in Hamburg for a French maritime trading company before returning to Lausanne in 1923 to join the Bureau industriel suisse. Following a series of mergers, this organization became the Office suisse d’expansion commerciale, where Campiche remained until his retirement in 1966.[1]
Upon the death of his father in 1939, Campiche took over the family firm L.-M. Campiche S.A. with his siblings, managing it until 1964. The company was known for its typewriters, marketed by Paillard under the Hermès brand. After leaving the firm, Campiche opened a commercial consulting office.[1]
Campiche also played a founding role in the Fédération romande de publicité, established in 1928, and served as its president for several years until 1957. He was involved with the Commission de propagande and the Commission du cinéma during the 1964 Swiss National Exhibition in Lausanne.[1]
Despite the claim in some unverified sources that Campiche designed a personal logo in the 1960s, no archival or published evidence has been found to confirm the existence, appearance, or designer of any such mark. The archival records held by the Canton of Vaud document Campiche’s professional activities but do not describe a personal logo or visual identity.[2]
Meaning and Symbolism
No documented symbolism, color scheme, or typographic identity has been verified for any logo associated with Robert Campiche. Without primary sources describing a mark, its design, or its intended meaning, no claims about symbolism can be made.
