Design and History

The logo was designed in Switzerland in 1967 for Rolf Koller, whose activity is recorded as advertising consulting within the advertising and public relations sector.[1] The designer, Michael Freisager (born Hans Michael Freisager, 1924-2014), was a Vienna-born graphic artist and painter who lived in Zurich from 1943.[2] After two years of study at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich, he worked as a freelance graphic designer in Switzerland from 1950, specializing in industrial, textile, fashion, food, and vehicle advertising, and designing posters, packaging, labels, and brochures.[3]

Freisager’s career included work published in the journal Graphis in the 1950s, including a stationery folder for a German firm and an advertisement for Swissair.[4] His poster work from the 1960s is held in Swiss public collections, including designs for clients such as Wärme AG and the Tagblatt der Stadt Zürich.[5]

Meaning and Symbolism

The Rolf Koller mark is documented as a logotype built around the client’s initial, the letter K.[1] No official source provides a documented interpretation of the symbol’s intended meaning beyond its function as an initial-based personal identifier for the advertising consultant.
