Les Créations Graphiques is a French book brand whose symbol was designed by Jacques Nathan-Garamond in 1960, according to the logo reference site LogosBrands.[1] The mark is classified as a circular, weave-style emblem, a format consistent with the designer’s broader output of corporate marks and graphic identities.[1]
Design and History
Jacques Nathan-Garamond (1910-2001) was a French graphic designer, illustrator and painter who created marks, packaging, book designs, illustrations, posters and corporate identities over a long career.[2] He studied at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs and later became a professor at the École Supérieure des Arts Graphiques in Paris.[3] In 1951 he co-founded the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) with Jean Colin, Jean Picart Le Doux, Fritz Bühler and Donald Brun.[3]
The Les Créations Graphiques symbol is dated to 1960, placing it in the middle of Nathan-Garamond’s most active period of identity design.[1] The logo database categorizes the mark as a circle and weave design, though no primary documentation describing the specific visual elements or the design brief for this particular brand has been located.[1]
Meaning and Symbolism
The circular weave structure is the only formally recorded characteristic of the design.[1]
