Deutsche Stahllamelle Hünnebeck was the name used by the German construction equipment firm founded by engineer Emil Mauritz Hünnebeck. The company, which became known internationally for formwork and scaffolding systems, operated under this name during the mid-20th century before later adopting the shorter Hünnebeck brand.

Design and History

Emil Mauritz Hünnebeck founded the Rautennetz GmbH in Essen in 1925, a company focused on the design and licensing of his patented “lozenge net” construction method. That company was absorbed in 1929 into the Deutsche Stahllamelle GmbH, which Hünnebeck had established in Dortmund in 1927. The firm later relocated to Düsseldorf and was converted into a family enterprise as Deutsche Stahllamelle Hünnebeck KG.[1][2]

In 1954, the company moved its operations from Düsseldorf to Lintorf near Ratingen.[3] A 1961 issue of the German engineering journal Bauingenieur reported that, starting April 30 of that year, the firm would mark all of its manufactured equipment with a new brand. At the same time, the company announced it would align its corporate name with its product identity and change from Deutsche Stahllamelle Hünnebeck GmbH to simply Hünnebeck.[4]

Wikimedia Commons holds a file titled “Logo-Hünnebeck.png” (272 × 57 pixels) within its Hünnebeck category, alongside an older image file labeled “Hünnebeck.jpg” (654 × 72 pixels). These files document the visual identity used by the company, though the exact dates of each mark are not specified in the available metadata.[5]

Meaning and Symbolism

The corporate name itself carried descriptive meaning. “Stahllamelle” translates to “steel lamella” or “steel slat,” reflecting the company’s early focus on steel-based construction components. The name change announced in 1961 dropped this descriptive element in favor of the founder’s surname, which had already become the recognized product brand.[4]

Documented visual symbolism for the 1950s-era mark is limited. The company’s current brand materials emphasize that since 1929 Hünnebeck has been a well-known name in building and construction, but they do not provide detailed design commentary on the historical logo.[6]
