Peintures Vachon is a Lyon-based paint company whose roots trace back to 1884, when the Vachon name first appeared in association with Adolphe Bomboy at a commerce house on the Cours de la Liberté. In 1890, after Bomboy left the partnership, Paul Vachon joined his brother Alphonse to found the Maison Vachon Frères, a paint and varnish business that would remain at the same Lyon address for over a century.[1]
Design and History
The company operated as Vachon Frères, a droguerie, vernis et couleurs business, at 21 Cours de la Liberté in Lyon by 1935, according to the Fournier directory of that year.[2] The site itself had earlier housed other industrial firms, including the Lille-Bonnière et Colombes oil company in 1920, before Vachon Frères took over the location.[2]
Later operating as Vachon S.A., the company became the largest independent Sikkens wholesale distributor in France, with 13 locations across the Rhône-Alpes region. Akzo Nobel announced plans to acquire Vachon S.A. in early January of the following year, a move aligned with its decorative coatings distribution strategy for professional applications.[3]
The business later operated under the name RSED Vachon Sibellas at the same 21 Cours de la Liberté address, offering professional building paints including acrylic, glycero, food-grade, silicate and lime-based products.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The company’s identity appears to have been primarily wordmark-based, with the Vachon name carried through successive corporate forms from Vachon Frères to Vachon S.A. to RSED Vachon Sibellas.
