Nichimo (ニチモ株式会社) was a Japanese real estate developer headquartered in Tokyo’s Chiyoda ward, known for condominium brands such as Louis Chateau, Joy City and Voir. The company traced its origins to 1955, when it was founded in Osaka as Nankai Block. It adopted the Nichimo name in 1977, a shortened form derived from its earlier corporate title Nihon Model Jutaku (Japan Model Housing).[1]

Design and History

The company operated a corporate website at nichimo.com, which is no longer active and survives only in archived form.[1]

Claims that a 1979 Nichimo logo was designed by Akira Hirata and Hiroshi Tada, or that it used geometric forms to convey stability and precision, cannot be verified through any available primary or secondary source. These attributions should be treated as unconfirmed.

In February 2009, Nichimo filed for civil rehabilitation proceedings with total liabilities of approximately 75.7 billion yen as of September 2008.[1] Its business was subsequently transferred to Nichimo Real Estate Co., Ltd., a new company established by sponsor Nikken in June 2009. In June 2010, all shares of Nichimo Real Estate were acquired by World Intec (now World Holdings).[1]

Nichimo was delisted from the Tokyo Stock Exchange in March 2009 following its rehabilitation filing.[1]

Meaning and Symbolism

The company name itself, however, has a clear origin: “Nichimo” is an abbreviation derived from Nihon Model Jutaku, the corporate name adopted in July 1960.[1] The name was formally adopted when the company changed its title to Nichimo Co., Ltd. in 1977.[1]

Given the absence of verifiable design documentation, this entry is necessarily brief. Researchers seeking the original logo may consult archived versions of the company’s former website at nichimo.com.[1]
