Dropzone is an open-source JavaScript library that turns any HTML element into a drag-and-drop file upload zone, handling file previews, upload progress, and XHR-based uploads. It was created in 2012 by developer Matias Meno and is distributed under the MIT License.[1]
Design and History
Dropzone’s visual identity was created in 2015 by the design studio “1910,” credited in the project’s license file as responsible for both the logo and website design.[2] The studio’s website was listed as weare1910.com in the same license attribution.[2]
The logo and website redesign accompanied the release of Dropzone v4.0.0, which Meno described as a complete redesign of the library and its web presence. In the release announcement, he thanked 1910 for designing the new logo and website.[3] The project’s README file from that era references an SVG logo file hosted at dropzonejs.com/images/new-logo.svg, indicating the new mark was introduced with this version.[4]
Later versions of the library continued to credit 1910 for the logo. The license file for Dropzone 6.0.0-beta.2, for instance, still reads “Logo (c) 2015 ‘1910’ www.weare1910.com.”[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The mark functions as a wordmark for the library, and no source in the project’s documentation or license files explains specific visual elements or their significance.
Typography and Design
The only verifiable design attribution is that 1910 designed the logo and website in 2015, as stated in the project’s license file.[2]
