EDP Technology Inc. was a Washington, D.C.-based computer services company formed in February 1968 by Western Union International, Inc., to provide a broad range of services to computer users.[1] The company was created by engineers from Martin-Marietta in 1969, and was later renamed Ed Tech Corp. in October 1973, then Educational Computer Corp. in August 1976, and finally ECC International Corp. in February 1988.[2]
Design and History
Arnold Saks, a New York City-based graphic designer who studied at Syracuse University and the Yale School of Design, formed the design partnership Ward & Saks in 1958 and Arnold Saks Associates in 1968.[3] His design work included corporate identity programs, annual reports, investor relations materials, marketing and capabilities brochures, recruiting booklets, and posters.[3] Major clients included Alcoa, Chase Bank, Goldman Sachs, International Paper, New York Life, Seagram, Siemens, 3M, UBS, United Technologies, Wyeth, and Xerox.[3]
No primary source has been located that documents an EDP Technology logo designed by Arnold Saks in 1968. The Arnold Saks papers at the Cary Graphic Design Archives at RIT contain posters, annual reports, and brochures created by the designer, but the collection’s finding aid does not list EDP Technology among its contents.[4] The Yale University Library catalog for the Arnold Saks Archive notes that the firm designed corporate identities, but does not enumerate specific clients.[5]
Given the absence of verifiable documentation connecting Arnold Saks to an EDP Technology logo, the attribution in the unverified lead cannot be confirmed. The company’s early visual identity, if one existed as a distinct mark, is not documented in the available research sources.
