The Dallas Renegades were one of eight franchises unveiled for the XFL’s 2020 relaunch, with the team’s name, logo and colors revealed on August 21, 2019.[1] The team was based in Arlington, Texas, and played at Globe Life Park, the former home of the Texas Rangers.[2]
Design and History
The primary Dallas Renegades logo depicted a Western outlaw from the neck up, wearing a cowboy hat with a bandana covering the lower half of the face. The figure’s red eyes were the only visible facial feature, with long black hair shown beneath the hat.[3][4] The XFL’s press release described the Renegades as “outlaw country, inside the lines,” framing the identity around a rebellious, untamed spirit.[4][5]
The team’s official colors were powder blue, black and red.[6] The logo’s cowboy hat and bandana were rendered in a muted powder blue, with the bandana covering the face and the red eyes providing the only bright accent.[4] The team branding and imagery drew from outlaw motorcycle club mythos.[1]
The 2020 XFL season was suspended after five games due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the league subsequently filed for bankruptcy. When the XFL relaunched under new ownership in 2023, the Dallas franchise was rebranded as the Arlington Renegades with a new logo, a D-R ligature that replaced the bandit mark as the primary identity.[7][8]
The original bandit logo, nicknamed “Billy the Bandit” in 2025, was reduced to secondary status after the 2023 rebrand but returned as the primary helmet logo in 2025.[7] In October 2025, the UFL announced the team would move to Toyota Stadium in Frisco and return to its original Dallas Renegades branding.[9]
Meaning and Symbolism
The bandit imagery directly reflected the “Renegades” name, depicting an outlaw figure with a concealed identity. The red eyes peering from beneath the hat and bandana gave the mark a menacing, defiant character consistent with the team’s “outlaw country” positioning.[4][10] The cowboy hat tied the identity to Texas and Western heritage, while the overall outlaw motif aligned with the XFL’s edgier, fan-focused brand strategy for its relaunch.[11]
