Suomen Akateeminen Urheiluliitto (SAUL) was the original name of the Finnish Student Sports Federation, founded in 1924. The organization operated under the SAUL name until 1971, when it was renamed Opiskelijoiden Liikuntaliitto (OLL).[1] Today, the organization’s visual identity is maintained by OLL, which publishes official logos and graphics guidelines for download.[2]

Design and History

The SAUL symbol was originally designed by Antti Laiho at the agency Sok in 1969.[3] The mark dates from the final years of the SAUL name, which was changed to Opiskelijoiden Liikuntaliitto in 1971.[1]

OLL’s current visual identity is built around a symbol stylized from the letters OLL, combined with the organization’s name in text.[4] The current graphics guidelines describe this mark as the basis of the organization’s visual identity.[4]

Meaning and Symbolism

OLL’s current mark is specified in petrool (teal) color with the hex value #065F7C.[4] The organization’s medal ribbon is based on the blue-and-white ribbon of the original Suomen Akateeminen Urheiluliitto and has six stripes.[5] OLL’s honorary and merit medals also derive from the SAUL merit medal.[5]
