Suomen Tennisliitto (Finnish Tennis Association, STL) is the governing body for tennis in Finland, founded on 22 April 1911 under the name Suomen Verkkopalloliitto.[1] The association’s official website describes it as comprising 153 member clubs with over 27,000 members.[2]

Design and History

Documented visual history of the association’s identity is limited. A pennant held in the Digitalt Museum collection, described as originating from the Finnish Tennis Association (FTF/STL), shows an early emblem featuring a tennis ball surrounded by the text “STL-FTF, 1911” and a wreath of oak leaves, rendered in white silk.[3] This pennant indicates that the association’s identity has historically incorporated the founding year 1911 alongside the bilingual Finnish and Swedish abbreviations.

The current visual identity of Suomen Tennisliitto uses blue and white colors, consistent with Finnish national colors, as noted in a thesis document that references the association’s official visual materials.[4]

Meaning and Symbolism

Documented symbolism for the current logo is limited. The early pennant emblem incorporates a tennis ball, oak leaves, and the year 1911, elements that connect the mark to the sport itself and the association’s founding date.[3] The blue and white palette used in the association’s current visual identity aligns with Finland’s national colors.[4]
