Traveloka is an Indonesian-founded travel platform that began in 2012 as a flight price comparison engine before expanding into hotels, travel packages, and lifestyle services across Southeast Asia. Its visual identity centers on a stylized blue bird symbol paired with the wordmark, a mark that has remained consistent since 2014.
Design and History
Traveloka was founded on 29 February 2012 by Ferry Unardi (CEO and Co-Founder) and Albert (Co-Founder), starting as a metasearch engine for comparing flight ticket prices. The company later expanded into hotel reservations and other travel and lifestyle services across Southeast Asia. [1]
The current logo, which has been in use since 2014, features a bird design in blue alongside the wordmark. [2] The bird depicted is a Godwit, a species known for its ability to fly thousands of kilometers without stopping. According to co-founder Albert, the Godwit was chosen as inspiration because these birds are adventurous and migrate around the world, a characteristic that aligns with Traveloka’s vision to “fly” far across the globe and provide convenience to consumers wherever they are. [3] [4]
Traveloka’s official logo resource page describes the logo as “the foremost and immediate representation of Traveloka.com’s spirit and values,” and provides guidelines for its use in publications. The page notes that the primary logo should only be used on light backgrounds where it can stand out, and provides logos in high-resolution PNG format with transparency. [5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The Traveloka logo is widely recognized by its bird image rendered in white and blue. [1] The Godwit bird holds particular significance: it holds a world record for nonstop long-distance flight, covering up to 11,500 kilometers without stopping. This endurance and migratory character was selected to reflect Traveloka’s ambition to reach consumers across the globe. [6]
According to a US trademark registration for the Traveloka mark, the logo consists of the wording “TRAVELOKA” in black to the left of a bird design in blue, with blue and black claimed as features of the mark. The design is classified under “birds or bats in flight or with outspread wings.” [7]
Typography and Design
Traveloka’s official brand resource page outlines specific usage rules for the logo, distinguishing between primary and secondary logo versions. The primary logo is intended for light backgrounds only, and the guidelines prohibit placing the logo on dark backgrounds or backgrounds with colors that are too close to the logo’s own colors. [5] The trademark registration confirms the wordmark appears in black lettering positioned to the left of the blue bird symbol. [7]
