Bouygues Telecom is the French mobile and internet operator owned by the Bouygues group. Its visual identity has undergone two significant redesigns since the brand’s launch in 1996, moving from a figurative human silhouette to a flat, abstract mark and then to a refreshed identity built around the theme of human connection.
Design and History
The original Bouygues Telecom logo, in use from the brand’s founding in 1996, featured a white human figure with raised arms set against a background of dark blue, turquoise and orange. This “bonhomme” (little man) symbol remained a constant for nearly two decades, though the logo gained a three-dimensional effect around 2005.[1]
In February 2015, Bouygues Telecom unveiled a new logo, first spotted in the group’s 2014 annual report and press area before an official announcement.[2] The redesign, created by the agency Happy Factory, kept the brand’s three signature colors (royal blue, turquoise blue and orange) but replaced the white human silhouette with three rounded pebble-like shapes.[3] The wordmark also changed: “bouygues” was now written in lowercase, a choice intended to signal a more accessible brand, while “Telecom” remained capitalized.[3][4] The new mark adopted the flat design style, a minimalist approach characterized by simple shapes and solid colors.[5]
In January 2020, Bouygues Telecom renewed its brand identity around the theme of human connection, introducing the new signature “On est fait pour être ensemble” (“We are made to be together”), which replaced the previous slogan “We love technology.”[6] The brand overhaul, including a complete redesign of its graphic charter (colors, logos, pictograms and typography), followed a competitive pitch won by BETC Design in autumn 2019.[7][8] The campaign supporting the new positioning was also created by BETC.[7]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2015 redesign replaced the human figure with three rounded pebbles, a more abstract representation. According to the agency Happy Factory, the lowercase “bouygues” was intended to symbolize a brand that is more accessible and attentive to customer needs and uses.[3]
The 2020 identity renewal was built around the concept of “le lien” (the bond or connection), emphasizing human relationships as the brand’s core value. Bouygues Telecom’s management described the new positioning as rooted in fundamental values meant to guide the company for 10 to 20 years, not merely a short-term communication platform.[6]
Typography and Design
As part of the 2020 identity overhaul, Bouygues Telecom introduced two proprietary typefaces: Bouygues Read, used for digital interfaces and customer-facing services, and Bouygues Speak, reserved for communication and marketing materials.[8] The operator progressively rolled out the new typography across its online services, including its customer portal, following the update of its online store.[8]
