Get AS was a Norwegian cable television operator and internet service provider, headquartered in Oslo, with local offices across the country.[1] The company operated under the Get name from October 2006 until 15 September 2020, when the brand was phased out and replaced by the Telia brand.[1]

Design and History

The Get identity was introduced on 16 October 2006, when the digital-TV and broadband company UPC Norway changed its name to Get.[2] The rebranding was accompanied by a new logo and profile, developed by the Norwegian design agency Scandinavian Design Group, which was responsible for both the new name and the visual identity.[2][3] The new logo and profile were visible on all Get buildings, cars and web pages from the launch date.[2]

Jens Bonesmo, Managing Director and Advisor at Scandinavian Design Group, explained the design rationale at launch: “Get develops advanced solutions and offers these to the customers in a simple way. This was an important guiding light when developing the visual identity.”[2] He also noted that the name offered potential for communications concepts such as “Get Sport” and “Get Connected.”[2]

The Get brand remained in use until 15 September 2020, when Telia, which had acquired the company in 2018, phased out the Get name and replaced it with the Telia brand.[1] The transition was announced the same day, with all former Get customer service centers being reprofiled to the Telia brand.[4]

Meaning and Symbolism

The name “Get” was chosen for its simplicity and memorability. At the launch, Get CEO Gunnar Evensen stated: “The name Get is simple and easy to remember. As a company we have a strong focus on making things easy for the customers.”[2] The visual identity was guided by the same principle of simplicity, reflecting the company’s focus on delivering advanced solutions in a straightforward way.[2]
