Ove Engström (born 1931 in Linköping, Sweden) was a Swedish graphic designer who ran Studio Ove Engström Design in Linköping and was a member of SAFET, the Swedish Association of Professional Graphic Designers. His studio is credited with designing symbols and trademarks for Swedish companies and institutions from the late 1960s through the 1970s.[1][2][3]

Design and History

Engström’s documented logo work includes several Swedish marks. In 1967, he designed the symbol for Gomer Und Andersson, a Swedish real estate brand.[2] The following year, in 1968, he created the symbol for Lunnevads Folkhögskola, a Swedish educational institution.[3] In 1970, he designed the symbol for Etinor AS_, a Swedish materials brand.[1]

These three marks are documented as original designs by Engström, with the Etinor AS_ symbol described as a circle logo with shadow elements and a ball motif, the Gomer Und Andersson mark as a circle logo with angular building forms, and the Lunnevads Folkhögskola symbol featuring stripe shapes.[1][2][3]

No verifiable evidence has been found for a 1983 logo attributed to Engström in collaboration with a designer named Ingvar Johansson. The claim appears in an unverified source and cannot be confirmed through available research.

Meaning and Symbolism

Documented symbolism for Engström’s marks is limited. The available sources describe the visual elements of his designs, such as circles, shadows, balls, angular building forms, and stripes, but do not provide explicit statements about intended meaning or symbolism behind these elements.[1][2][3]
