Internationale Musikbibliothek was a music library and documentation centre in East Berlin, known in German as the Internationale Musikbibliothek Berlin. It grew out of the Deutsche Staatsbibliothek’s music division and was formally established in 1954 as an independent institution, with the aim of collecting and lending printed music and music literature internationally.[1] It was dissolved in 1971.[1]
The institution’s visual identity is frequently attributed to a 1965 mark by the German graphic designer Herbert Prüget. However, no official institutional record, designer portfolio or museum archive confirming this attribution has been located, and the surviving logo documentation for the Internationale Musikbibliothek is thin.[1] Prüget was active in East German applied graphic design from the 1950s onward, but his name is not reliably linked to this specific commission in any available source.
Since the library ceased operations more than five decades ago and its holdings were absorbed elsewhere, its logo has largely fallen out of circulation. What remains is the name and the historical record of the institution itself, not a well-documented identity programme.[1]
Logo Index is an independent educational archive covering logos, visual identities and graphic design history. All trademarks and brand assets remain the property of their respective owners.
