Banco Azteca, the Mexican multiple banking institution founded in 2002, uses a logo built around a red circle framed by green stylized arches, with the wordmark “BANCO AZTECA” set below in green lettering. The mark has remained consistent since at least 2009, when it was registered as a trademark, and continues to appear on the bank’s official website today.
Design and History
The current Banco Azteca logo was registered as a trademark in 2009. The official trademark filing describes the mark as consisting of “the words ‘BANCO AZTECA’ below a circle and stylized arches,” with red appearing in the circle and green appearing in the curves surrounding the red circle and in the lettering of the wordmark.[1]
In June 2017, as part of a broader brand transformation, Banco Azteca renewed its image by adding the slogan “Sueñas. Decides. Logras” (You Dream. You Decide. You Achieve) to its existing logo. The bank described the slogan as reflecting its commitment to believing in clients’ dreams, encouraging them to decide to pursue them, and celebrating their achievements.[2] The 2017 refresh also included a new institutional advertising campaign and a new website, with the bank stating its intention to get closer to its clients.[2]
In 2018, the bank reported that it had worked for nine months with Landor, a global brand strategy and creation firm, along with its internal agency, Agencia i, on a brand study and strategy. According to the bank, despite these changes, it maintained its logo and continued using the national colors, while unifying its product offerings to avoid confusing users.[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The bank’s own communications have not published an official interpretation of the logo’s graphic elements. The trademark registration documents the visual composition but does not assign symbolic meaning to the red circle or green arches.[1] The 2018 brand strategy report notes that the bank “keeps using the patriotic colors” in its logo, referring to the green and red of the Mexican flag.[3]
Some third-party sources have offered interpretations of the mark, such as describing the green curves as resembling open arms or a protective dome, and the red circle as representing energy or the client at the center. However, these interpretations are not official and should be treated as commentary rather than documented brand meaning.
Typography and Design
The wordmark “BANCO AZTECA” appears in green lettering beneath the circular symbol, as documented in the trademark registration.[1] No official documentation identifies the specific typeface used in the logo. The design has remained stable since at least 2009, with the 2017 refresh adding the slogan rather than altering the core symbol or wordmark.[2]
