Nagad (Bengali: নগদ) is a Bangladeshi mobile financial service (MFS) that launched on 26 March 2019 under the authority of the Bangladesh Post Office, an attached department of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication.[1] The service was developed from an agreement between Third Wave Technology Ltd and the Bangladesh Post Office, with Third Wave later renamed Nagad Ltd in February 2019.[1]
Design and History
Nagad has changed its logo several times since its launch. The original 2019 mark featured a two-layered red half circle with a red human figure facing left, carrying a lantern, a staff, and what appears to be a post card bag on the back, a reference to the postal heritage of the service.[2] In 2020, the human figure was placed inside a customized circle made of four different shapes, with the wordmark set in two columns in red and black.[2] The 2021 version gave the circle a three-dimensional look and placed the company name below it in red.[2]
In January 2024, Nagad introduced a new logo by removing the runner symbol that had been associated with the postal department.[3] A Nagad representative confirmed the change, stating that only the logo was updated and that it was modified to help the company reach the public with a broader range of services.[3] The 2024 logo is documented as the current mark in use.[1]
Meaning and Symbolism
The early Nagad logos drew directly on the postal identity of the Bangladesh Post Office. The original 2019 mark clearly represented a post card delivery man, tying the brand to its postal origins.[2] The later 2020 and 2021 logos shifted to an orange and red circular motif, which some observers have described as a representation of fire, though the exact meaning is not officially documented.[2]
Typography and Design
Across all versions of the Nagad logo, the typography has been completely customized rather than drawn from a standard typeface.[2] The color palette evolved over time: the first logo used only red and white, the second added orange and black, and the 2021 version settled on red and orange.[2]
