Polsat is the flagship television channel of Poland’s Polsat Plus Group, a media and telecommunications holding company. The channel launched in 1992 as PolSat, Poland’s first commercial television station, and adopted a sun symbol in its logo in 1994 after securing a terrestrial license.[1] The current Polsat logo, introduced in 2021, is part of a group-wide visual identity harmonization that also rebranded the parent company as Grupa Polsat Plus.[2]
Design and History
Polsat’s visual identity underwent a major overhaul in 2021 as part of a strategic rebranding of the entire Polsat Plus Group. The new logos for Polsat and its sister brand Plus were designed to be visually consistent with one another, signaling their shared ownership while preserving each brand’s individual character.[2] The creative concept for the new logos was developed by Saffron Brand Consultants, which was responsible for creating the new logotypes, consistent symbols, and the so-called “skin” (the graphical theme used across applications).[3]
The 2021 redesign marked the end of the sun symbol that had appeared in every Polsat logo since 1994.[4] The previous logo, which had been in use with minor modifications for over 15 years, featured a sun placed inside an orange square with shining stripes alongside a red square with the “POLSAT” text.[1] The new logo replaced the literal sun with a more abstract circular symbol, described by observers as resembling a striped ball or sphere.[4]
The new identity was rolled out gradually. The main Polsat and Plus logos were unveiled on June 10, 2021, followed by the thematic channels’ logos in August 2021.[5] On August 30, 2021, all 24 Polsat channels switched to the new visual identity simultaneously.[6] The on-air graphics for the new identity were prepared by the German creative agency Luxlotusliner, which had also created Polsat’s previous on-air presentations.[6]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2021 logo retains a connection to the sun through its color. According to the company, the yellow color of the Polsat logo represents “energy, joy and optimism flowing from the sun,” which the broadcaster describes as inextricably linked to Polsat.[2] The creative concept for the new channel identities was based on the animation of sun rays, which serve as a common element across all of the new channel logos.[6]
The 2021 redesign also shifted Polsat’s color palette. The previous logo had been dominated by orange, while the new identity returns to yellow, a color associated with the channel’s earlier branding.[4]
Typography and Design
The 2021 Polsat logo uses a custom typography designed specifically for the Polsat Plus Group.[2] This proprietary font, referred to as “Display Font” in later group communications, has been applied consistently across the group’s brands, including the 2023 refresh of TV4 and TV6.[7] The brand name is written in lowercase letters, a stylistic choice noted by branding experts as helping to build closeness with the audience.[8]
