OHL Industrietechnik was a German industrial services brand associated with the Ohl family of Limburg, Germany. The company’s origins trace back to 1867, when OHL was founded in Limburg, and the Ohl family became a significant industrial presence in the region.[1][2]

Design and History

The OHL Industrietechnik symbol was originally designed by German graphic designer Heinz Schwabe in 1970.[3] Schwabe (1910-1988) was a German draughtsman and graphic designer, born in Schönsee, West Prussia, who worked as a freelance commercial artist from 1939 and later established a firm in Düsseldorf.[4][5]

The logo is documented as a square-shaped mark with weave and circle elements.[3] The design reflects the geometric, functionalist approach common to Schwabe’s commercial work of that period.

In 1992, the OHL company merged with Gutermuth, a Frankfurt-based firm founded in 1923, to form OHL Gutermuth Industrial Valves GmbH in Altenstadt, Germany.[6] The OHL Industrietechnik name and its 1970 mark are no longer in active use by the merged entity, which operates under the OHL Gutermuth brand.

Meaning and Symbolism

Documented symbolism for the OHL Industrietechnik mark is limited. The logo’s square and weave elements suggest a structured, industrial character consistent with the company’s engineering and manufacturing focus, though no official interpretation of the design’s meaning has been published.
